DeMott had been under fire after a 2013 internal memo sent to WWE talent relations from former developmental talent Austin Matelson, who wrestled under the name Judas Devlin, was leaked on Reddit earlier this week. The letter claimed that DeMott many times used bullying tactics and abusive behavior as part of his training methods.
WWE responded to the allegations and stated that an internal investigation found no wrongdoing.
That came as a surprise to Nick Nemeth — who worked under the name Briley Pierce and is the brother of current WWE superstar Dolph Ziggler — who said the company never spoke with him despite Matelson’s stating in his letter that DeMott once kicked Nemeth’s medical boot as he recovered from a broken leg.
Since then, more wrestlers have come out against DeMott and his practices including MVP and Ethan Carter III — both former WWE talents now with TNA — as well as former developmental talent Drew Donovan, who wrote about DeMott on his Facebook page.
These type of accusations had come up years ago when DeMott was the trainer for Deep South Wrestling, then part of the WWE developmental system. After being let go in 2007, he was rehired in 2011 as part of the “Tough Enough” reality show and then was hired as the head trainer for their developmental system in 2012.
A certain point comes where you just lose respect for a dude for NOT punching someone in the face. Nude top rope squats is pretty much that point. Luckily I must have missed that day.
WWE has yet to make a statement about the matter and no replacement has been made.
UPDATE: WWE told The Washington Post it had accepted DeMott’s resignation. PWInsider.com reported that Matt Bloom, aka Jason Albert/Tensai, has been named interim trainer.
