Janco Partners analyst, Mike Hickey, has reported that Assassin’s Creed II is charting as much as 20% higher in pre-orders than its predecessor — a testament to how tempting the E3 footage of Ezio’s dual hidden-blades and wrist-gun was for potential gamers. Retailer exclusive DLC maps have contributed to pre-order momentum but it can’t hurt that Ubisoft has been adamant that Assassin’s Creed II improves on the first game’s lackluster side-missions and superficial combat.
Those familiar with the gaming industry expected Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to sell a tremendous amount of copies, but now there’s evidence those figures represent a “record breaking” amount of copies. According to Game Hunters, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has sold more GameStop pre-orders than any other game. “By all indicators, we anticipate Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be the biggest entertainment launch of all time,” said Tony Bartel, GameStop’s executive vice president for merchandising and marketing. Retailers have been coaxing potential Modern Warfare 2 customers for months with pre-order sweepstakes as well as the limited supply of the premium packages.
